Statue of Buddha at Borobudur

Borobudur is an 8th century Buddhist monument, and the largest of it’s kind. The monument is constructed with 6 square platforms with 3 round platforms on top. There are 504 statues in total, 72 of which surround the main dome, centered atop the platforms.

procrastinatin’ with Borges — (the suicide)

eye-light:

Not a single star will be left in the night.

The night will not be left.

I will die and, with me,

the weight of the intolerable universe.

I shall erase the pyramids, the medallions,

the continents and faces.

I shall erase the accumulated past.

I shall make dust of history, dust of dust.

Now I am looking on the final sunset.

I am hearing the last bird.

I bequeath nothingness to no one.

Space is all big and shit, yo. I know most people are already aware of this, but sometimes you just need to put things in perspective.

oh, did you plan on feeling significant today?

Discover the True Will

thelemite:

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

This treatment should be considered a kind of sequel to the one posted about a week ago titled On True Will & the Self. In that short essay, I outlined as clearly as possible the basic concepts of Crowley’s psychology. Crowley essentially equated a person’s True Self and its Will with the Transcendental Ego and the Freudian das Es. And, toward the end of that piece, I hinted at some possible “practical” ways, mainly taken from Crowley’s writings, of uncovering the True Will.

Now, at the time Crowley was developing his psychology, Freud’s theories were still cutting edge and Husserl’s conception of a Transcendental Ego was essentially unchallenged. However, we have advanced a great deal more philosophically and psychologically since that time. Sartre’s successful and devastating critique of the Husserlian Transcendental Ego, and along with it the idea of an unconscious mind, makes Crowley’s notion of the True Self unintelligible (cf. La Transcendence de L’Ego). Also, modern psychology has abandoned the Freudian notions as more conclusive and more scientific research has expanded our understanding. While there still exists mental activity that is not mediated by conscious awareness, this activity is a far cry from Freud’s das Es.

The spiritual journey is individual, highly personal. It can’t be organized or regulated. It isn’t true that everyone should follow one path. Listen to your own truth.
